We spend on average one third of our lifetime in the bedroom , so you’d think the design and furniture we fill our bedrooms with would be pretty important to us. Well – yes and no. We’ve trawled the Web to find some of the weirdest and most wonderful pieces of design you may choose to fill your new homes and bedrooms with. Some are super-cool and useful, whilst others are just downright bizarre. Enjoy!
1. The Self Defence Table
Calling all security conscious home-owners – this may be the perfect bedside table for you! Forget sleeping with a knife under your pillow, the Self Defence Table provides all the protection you may need from a would-be intruder. That is if you’re brave enough to take them on.

2. The Itchy, Scratchy Bed of Hay
This bed probably isn’t going to give you the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had but it is pretty cool. Look closely and you can even see the last two occupants covered in hay.
3. The Bed Trap
Perfect for those who struggle to hold onto a new partner, the Bed Trap (as we’ve named it) comes complete with a wooden box to hold your beloved in, and stick and string to trap them when they least expect it. Hmm, very romatic.
4. Warping Wallpaper
We reckon these quirky wall coverings would definitely add a different dimension to your bedroom. For non-drug takers this is what an acid trip might look like, and it probably best not to look at when drunk.
5. Bedroom in a Box
This has to be the most usable item on the list, and is in fact brilliant. Perfect for students; people who are likely to move regularly and even refugees in disaster zones; Bedroom in a Box is an example of design genius.
6. Multimedia Chair
What technology modernist wouldn’t love this piece of furniture? Complete with DVD storage slotted into the sides of the chair, comfy seating, a flat screen TV and computer desk behind – this piece has it all.
7. The Space Saving ‘Computer Desk-Bed’
A genius bit of design work here. This space-saving bed and storage unit folds the mattress down the side of the bed to have the computer desk on top; or rolls down the desk to reveal the mattress whilst keeping everything on the desk just as you left it.
8. Trippy Bookcase
This unusual bookcase looks like it is straight out of the Patrick Swayze film Ghost, as the spirit of the bookcase leaves its body behind.
9. The Space Saving Mattress
For the discerning, space-saving individual who sleeps in one position – all night long, without moving – this is surely the mattress for you.
10. Bookcase Bed for Kids
We doubt there’s a single kid out there who wouldn’t love this bed surrounded by a bookcase. A secret, little den they can hide and play in, the unusual design may prove difficult for adults to find their way into…Or is that the point?
